Condado de Alhama : Surrounding Area
Condado de Alhama is situated 15 minutes drive from the coast at Mazarron. There are wide sandy beaches for the whole family to enjoy. Puerto de Mazarron offers a long promenade with many restaurants overlooking the beach and marina.
Prices are very reasonable and a menu del dia (three courses, bread and wine) is typically around 10 Euros and you can enjoy many tapas bars or enjoy a coffee while you watch the locals stroll by or the children play on the beach..
The town of Mazarron remains "typically Spanish" and many of the summer holidaymakers are from Spain. There are no high rise hotels or package holidays in the area.
There are two long stretches of sandy beach to choose from, Mazarron beach and Puerto de Mazarron. A few kilometres further along the coast there are rocky inlets and more private beaches where diving is a popular sport.

In the mountains near Alhama, visible from the resort, there are two national parks, Sierra Espuna and Sierra Carascoy.
Sierra Espuna offers miles of walking trails and bike tracks. The views are stunning and you can drive around the mountains to the viewing points. There are a number of camping sites and picnic areas. In mid winter you will sometimes see snow on the peaks (up to 1585 metres) while it is still 18 degrees and sunny down in the resort.
The view points overlook the local town of Alhama where you will find all the amenities you expect from a large Spanish town. There are ancient Roman baths in Alhama to explore as an archealogical ruin.
The city of Murcia is just 20 minutes drive from Alhama. Here you can enjoy shopping at the El Corte Ingles department store or in the many boutique shops in the city centre. A university town, Murcia is popular for night life and offers the sophistication you would expect of a large city for its bars, restaurants, theatre and entertainment venues. The city is popular for sightseeing with a number of attractions including the cathedral and museums.
The coastal city of Cartagena is 30 minutes drive from Condado de Alhama. Catagena is rich in history which stretches back to the formation of the city in Roman times.
