Supply of Electricity –
“There has been a change in the law and the manner in which electricity is distributed in Spain. The
market is being deregulated to enable consumers to choose their retailing supplier. The consumer
has the option to either agree a tariff for the supply of electricity with a deregulated open market
retailer (comercializadoras mercado libre) or to use a supplier known as the “Last Resort Retailer or
Ultimo Recurso”. The Last Resort Retailers must supply electricity at the price established by the
Government. There have been reports in the local Spanish press that this last option will carry a
surcharge according to the level electricity provided and ranging from between 5% and 20% of the
electricity usage. This is not quite correct and our research indicates the following:
Firstly, you need to check what your contract is for; this is not your actual electricity consumption but
your contracted rate of kilowatts. You can see this on the left hand side your Iberdrola bill where it
says “Potencia” just above the “Tarifa”. For domestic use this will normally be between 3 and 6kW. If it
is less than 10kW, your electricity rate will increase by 2.6%. You do not have to do anything and your
contract will remain with Iberdrola. You can, if you wish, choose any of the electricity providers if one
of these companies offers lower prices or discounts, but to date all rates are very similar. (A full list of
the Last Resort retailer and Open Market retailers can be found on the rear of your Iberdrola bill.)
www.hrgr.es
If your contract is for more than 10kW then you have to sign a contract with one of the other Open
Market electricity companies before the 1st of July 2010. If you do not you will be charged 5% every
three months, until it reaches 20% after one year. This would usually be for industrial units and shops
etc.”

Gas Information
The reason why there has been an increase in your gas bill since you did the gas conversion is
because of the concept called “término fijo”. It depends on the kind of tariff that you have contracted
with the gas company.
When Gas Natural did the gas conversion from gas propane to the other one, they did transfer
automatically all your details from “GAS NATURAL MURCIA SDG, S.A.” to “GAS NATURAL S.U.R.
SDG, S.A.”, and in that moment they changed the tariff in all the contracts from “ Básica Gas” to
“Óptima Gas”.
Please find below some details regarding the prices.
TARIFF BÁSICA GAS
TARIFF OPTIMA
GAS
COST OF THE GAS PER
KWH
0,64 €
0,04 €
TERMINO FIJO
3,00 €
15,68 €
RENT OF THE METRE
2,26 €
2,34 €
If you are resident in the complex and use a big amount of gas, you might be interested in having
“OPTIMA GAS” as the cost of the gas per KWH is cheaper than the other tariff; however, if you are
not resident and just come a few times a year and do not need to use your heating, then you may be
interested in having the previous tariff “BASICA GAS”.
What to do now?
If you want to go back to the old tariff it is necessary that you ring “HC Energía” (new gas company in
Murcia from 1st January 2010) 902 330 115, and provide them with the name of the holder of the
contract, NIE, contract reference, address and ask them for changing it. The change will be
automatically and you will see it in the next invoice.
